Librarians hold workshop at NDSU

Close to 80 regional librarians gathered on the NDSU campus March 28 for the Association of College and Research Libraries Assessment in Action workshop. The workshop, held at the Harry D. McGovern Alumni Center, is intended for librarians, library staff and library administrators.

“Library assessment is a qualitative and quantitative process aimed at identifying the current and future needs and best practices that enhance teaching, learning and research,” said Joe Mocnik, NDSU dean of libraries.“The Assessment in Action workshop, cohosted by NDSU Libraries, is very timely as we are implementing the LibQUAL survey and are exploring other methods to finely tune library services, change the organizational culture and market the library.”

Scheduled speakers include Eric Resnis, head of instructional services at Coastal Carolina University's Kimbel Library, and Melanie Sellar, head of instruction and assessment at Santa Clara University Library and adjunct professor at San Jose State University iSchool.

“We are pleased to have the opportunity to share this national program with our library colleagues across the upper Midwest,” said Laura Probst, library director at Concordia College. “Learning to apply assessment methods and data-informed analysis to library services is a critical step in documenting the ways that libraries contribute to student learning.”

The roadshow is sponsored by the Tri-College University, Minitex, ODIN and Northern Lights Library Network. Members of the Tri-College University include NDSU, Concordia College, Minnesota State University Moorhead, MState Moorhead and North Dakota State College of Science.
