The NDSU Press has been notified its authors will receive three Gold medals and one Silver medal from the 2019 Independent Publisher Book Awards. The award ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday, May 28, in New York City.

The competition is commonly known as the IPPY Awards.

The NDSU Press award recipients and their respective book titles include:

• “Apple in the Middle,” by Dawn Quigley

Gold Medal – Multicultural Fiction – Juvenile/Young Adult

• “Pacing Dakota,” by Thomas Isern

Gold Medal – Midwest – Best Regional Non-Fiction

• “Songs of Horses and Lovers,” by Madelyne Camrud

Gold Medal – Poetry – Specialty (Illustrated/Anthology)

• “Operation Snowbound: Life behind the Blizzards of 1949,” by David W. Mills

Silver Medal – Midwest – Best Regional Non-Fiction

Independent publishers from around the world participated in the 23rd annual Independent Publisher Book Awards. There are winners from five Australian provinces, seven Canadian provinces, 42 states and the District of Columbia and Guam, plus France, Germany, Indonesia and Japan.

"We are thrilled to collect four awards from this international competition,” said Suzzanne Kelley, NDSU Press publisher. “Our sweep of three Gold and one Silver medals signals that we have a winning strategy with our combination of superb authors from across the United States and the experiential learning process afforded our Certificate in Publishing students."

Kelley also noted that in addition to NDSU Press, 15 university-affiliated publisher from across the country had winning publications. NDSU Press was the only one to claim four medals.

The NDSU Press publishes peer-reviewed regional scholarship from the Red River Valley, North Dakota and the plains of North America. Its mission is to stimulate and coordinate interdisciplinary scholarship.
