Theta Chi wins award for excellence

Theta Chi Fraternity, Phi Chapter, at North Dakota State University has won the Howard R. Alter Jr. Award for Chapter Excellence the second year in a row. The national prize is awarded based on members' involvement with the university, philanthropy hours, rush numbers, grade-point average and chapter.

The Alter Award was first presented in 1985 to chapters meeting or exceeding a standard of excellence. It is the highest honor a fraternity can bestow on a chapter. It is presented annually to a chapter demonstrating excellence in several designated areas of chapter operations. Having won the award 10 times, Phi Chapter has earned the Alter Award more than any of the other 153 chapters in the nation.

"This is the second consecutive year we received the award and we look forward to competing for it each year," said Ben Nicholas, public relations chairman for Theta Chi. "It motivates us from year to year to improve in academics, volunteering and all we do."

Theta Chi is one of the oldest and largest men's social fraternities in North America with philanthropy being one of its greatest missions. Its members at NDSU have volunteered locally at the YWCA, Days of Giving, highway clean up and the flood fight.
