Transportation and logistics students tour Minneapolis airport

Eight students from the NDSU Association of Transportation and Logistics toured the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport during spring semester.

The tour, led by Northwest/Delta de-icing manager Jay Hassett, focused on Northwest and Delta Airlines operations including ramp and aircraft taxi operations, maintenance facilities and baggage handling. Students gained insight into the operations of airlines and logistical operations at the airport. Students attending were Khalid Bachkar, Anne Campbell, Chris Dehaan, Maher Itani, EunSu Lee, Steve Leon, Qing Liu and Sumadhur Shakya.

In 2007, the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport served 35.1 million passengers and accommodated 452,972 landings and take-offs. The airport ranks 12th in North America for the number of travelers serviced, making it the 12th busiest airfield in the United States. The daily capacity of the airfield is about 60 planes per hour, except in inclement weather conditions, when traffic may be reduced as low as 24 planes per hour. The de-icing operations for Northwest and Delta airlines have been ranked the third largest worldwide.
