Snyder receives Fraud Educator of the Year award

Herb Snyder, associate professor of accounting, has been honored for teaching fraud examination. The Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) named Snyder the 2010 recipient of the Fraud Educator of the Year Award at their annual meeting in Washington, D.C., July 26.

The award is presented to an ACFE educator who has made an outstanding contribution to anti-fraud education. “They look at the effectiveness of the program, as well as any research or community service the educator has done,” Snyder said. “Our program includes a field experience for the students as well as an instructional video that we created with help from the theater department.”

There are more than 50,000 members of ACFE and a few thousand of those are educators. The majority of their members are professionals who investigate fraud.

James Clifton, assistant professor of accounting practice, nominated Snyder. “It’s nice to be acknowledged for the program, but it’s more of a reflection on our department as a whole and the good work we do,” Snyder said.

At NDSU Snyder received the 2009 Peltier Award for innovation in teaching and recently was named an advocate for the Advance FORWARD project.
