NDSU plans emergency response exercise for August 5

On Thursday, August 5, starting between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m., NDSU will test emergency response capabilities in conjunction with state and local emergency services units. There will be no formal announcement of the start, it will occur as though unplanned. This exercise will be directed by the N.D. National Guard 81st Civil Support Team from Bismarck.

The exercise will involve Ladd and Dunbar Halls on the NDSU campus. Facilities and campus streets near these buildings will also be included in the exercise. Departments should be able to operate as normal during the exercise.

To accomplish this real-life simulation, a limited number of “victims” with injuries, smoke screens and noise devices will be used. While the area will be taped off and posted with “exercise only” signs, the use of these tools may create the sense of a real situation. Please advise anyone who may not be aware of the exercise, that the event is simply an emergency response practice.

This exercise complies with annual emergency plan testing as required under the Higher Education Opportunity Act, and will also be a part of the NDSU Ready Campus Imitative Grant currently being administered by the NDSU Emergency Management Program and the University Police and Safety Office.

Questions regarding the exercise can be directed to Ray Boyer, Director of University Police and Safety.
