Become a fan: Cheer the Bison

You’re registered for fall classes and all set for the academic year to begin. The next step is becoming a member of Bison Nation.

For many incoming students that means being a vocal fan of the Bison football team, national champions for seven of the past eight years.

An easy way to start is to join the entire campus for Bison Pride Fridays, when you’ll see green and yellow everywhere. Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to wear their favorite NDSU T-shirts and sweaters, and it gets everyone fired up for the next game.

But the best way to participate is to go to a game – you’ll be hooked. The excitement in the Fargodome before a packed crowd of 18,000 loyal supporters make for an unforgettable NDSU experience.

"You will experience no greater thrill than when the lights go out in the Fargodome right before the players and coaches rush onto the field. The atmosphere in the building is something that you will never forget,” said student body president Mason Rademacher. “I think what is truly special about the Bison family is that there is a buy-in and passion from everyone: students, staff, faculty, administration and alumni.

“There’s no game day like Bison game day. Everyone says that about their school, but the atmosphere inside the Fargodome is something truly special,” said Alyson Vander Steen, assistant director of athletics for marketing and fan engagement.

Student seating is loud, engaging and incredibly fun. Thundar, the famous mascot, roams the arena entertaining fans of all ages.

“At home games, you can see and feel what it means to be a Bison,” said Troy Goergen, senior associate athletic director. “Students, sitting shoulder-to-shoulder in the student section, are a key component in creating the atmosphere that makes the Fargodome the toughest place to play in the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision.”

With your activity fees, you are eligible to reserve one ticket in the student section for each home football game. Reservations are accepted the week of each home game and based on availability.

To reserve your student ticket to a football game:

• Login at GoBison.com/students, reserve your ticket and it will be loaded onto your current student ID.

• If all tickets are reserved, you can submit your name to a waiting list. If a ticket is returned by 5 p.m. Thursday, it will be awarded to the student at the top of the list and an email notification sent.

• Students enter the Fargodome through the south entrance on game day. Doors will open 90 minutes prior to kickoff.

• ID's will be swiped and admission granted to students presenting a valid ID with the current game loaded onto it. Student ID's are non-transferable and will be confiscated if found in the possession of another person.

When you go, there are some things you cannot bring into the Fargodome:

• Bags larger than 13”x13”

• Weapons of any kind

• Laptops, iPads and cameras with detachable lenses

• Food or beverages

• Cans, glass bottles or coolers

• Air horns, noise makers, balloons or inflatable items

• Selfie sticks or laser pointers

• Pets (other than service animals)

• Recording devices

• Masks

There are other NDSU sports – women’s volleyball and soccer – that also create plenty of excitement each fall. For those games, you’ll receive free admission by simply presenting your valid NDSU student ID at the door. Both teams play on campus. Volleyball hosts games at Bentsen Bunker Fieldhouse on University Drive and soccer plays at Dacotah Field on 17th Avenue North.

Fall semester is just the beginning. NDSU Athletics has a total of 11 other NCAA Division I sports teams, so there is something for every fan throughout the year. NDSU has earned 27 team national championships since 1965.
