Bison student-athletes have record-setting semester in the classroom

NDSU athletic teams completed an impressive 2020 spring semester in the classroom, with a combined 3.574 grade-point average among 414 student-athletes.

All 14 sport programs recorded above 3.0 team GPAs, including 11 teams with record-high semesters. The Bison women’s teams averaged a 3.704 GPA, while the men’s teams averaged a 3.445.

Other academic highlights include:

• 320 student-athletes earned a 3.0 GPA or higher in the spring semester (77.29 percent)

• Record-high 110 student-athletes had a perfect 4.0 GPA (26.57 percent)

• 235 student-athletes earned dean's list recognition

Through the spring 2020 semester, NDSU has 305 student-athletes (73.67 percent) with a cumulative career GPA of 3.0 or higher, including 33 student-athletes with a perfect 4.0. There are 190 student-athletes with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.

Over the winter and spring seasons, NDSU had 33 student-athletes named to the Summit League Academic All-League teams. Elliott Stone (men’s track and field), Shelby Gunnels (women’s track and field), Paige Harris (women’s track and field), Charley Hesse (baseball) and Cara Beatty (softball) were all named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 6 First Team.

Cordell Eaton was named the Big 12 Wrestling Scholar Athlete of the Year and was among four wrestlers who earned NWCA Scholar All-American honors. Six members of the national champion football team were named to the National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society.

The Bison football team was awarded the FCS Athletic Directors Association Academic Progress Report award for having the highest APR score among schools in the Missouri Valley Football Conference. The Bison baseball, softball, women’s basketball and women’s golf teams all had the highest APR score in The Summit League.

The NDSU baseball, women’s golf and women’s basketball teams were honored with an NCAA APR Public Recognition Award. The Bison wrestling team finished the year ranked 10th in the NWCA Top 30 Academic Standings.
