The Red River Valley Writing Project at NDSU is scheduled to offer an online grief and bereavement writing workshop July 6-9 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The workshop is funded by the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers.

The free workshop is offered for students in grades 7-12, aimed at teens affected by grief and bereavement. Participants will create and share their writing, which will emphasize healing through creativity.

The workshop’s instructors are NDSU English department academic staff member Dave Binkard and NDSU senior Kaitlyn Breidenbach, an English education major.

“Dave and Kaitlyn are superlative writing instructors using a rich assortment of mentor texts by teens who have experienced grief and loss,” said Kelly Sassi, associate professor of English and director of the Red River Valley Writing Project. “Healing through creativity is a support that English teachers can provide during these difficult times.”

The students’ completed works will be submitted to the Scholastic Arts and Writing Awards competition.
