The Red River Valley Writing Project at NDSU is scheduled to offer its summer institute July 9-31.

The “C3WP Online Summer Institute” is a professional development program for teachers. Participants are eligible to receive stipends of $350 to $2,000, depending on how many of the six to 34 hours of activities they take part in.

The College, Career and Community Writers Program, known as C3WP, teaches argument writing with source texts and has demonstrated excellent research results in rural, high-needs schools.

Institute instructors and online session leaders include Angela Hase, Moorhead High School English teacher and co-director of the Red River Valley Writing Project; Kelly Sassi, NDSU professor of English and director of the Red River Valley Writing Project; and Kim Rensch of the Fargo Public Schools.

In addition, Montana high school teacher Casey Olson is scheduled to present a guest teaching demonstration. Olson helped develop the C3WP and is a national speaker on the topic.

“Teachers should sign up for the workshop to deepen their understanding of teaching argument writing skills and to collaborate with others in creating online units,” Sassi said.

Space is limited to 10 participants and teachers with previous experience with C3WP are given preference. Applications are due Friday, July 3.
