NDSU Libraries set to host National Suicide Prevention Month event

NDSU Libraries are set to host an event in recognition of National Suicide Prevention Month Thursday, Sept. 24, 2020 from noon to 2 p.m. at the campus’ Main Library located at 1201 Albrecht Boulevard, Fargo.

Prairie St. John’s is sponsoring the event.

September is National Suicide Prevention Month. The purpose of the event is to bring awareness to the subject of suicide, while reminding students that a positive state-of-mind starts with being good to yourself.

During the event, students and other community members can take an online screening on their personal device to determine if they are experiencing symptoms of a mental health condition. There will be take-home resources available on ways to ground yourself when you are feeling stressed or anxious, materials available from NDSU Libraries on mental health, and other resources.

COVID-19 prevention guidelines will be in place.

If you’re concerned about yourself or someone else, call 911 in the case of a medical emergency. In times of crisis, call Prairie St. John’s at 701-476-7200; call FirstLink locally at 211 or text 898-211; or call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255. They're free and confidential and available 24/7.

There are many places on campus you can find mental health support. You can call the NDSU Counseling Center at 701-231-7671 to seek help, visit NDSU Libraries for a safe space and to access information or get active at the NDSU Wellness Center as a healthy lifestyle can help prevent mental health problems.
