“As a campus, we are intentional in our recruiting and supporting students, faculty and staff from all backgrounds,” said Julie Nash, Excellence Programs manager in the Office of the Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs and Equity. “We are committed to building a sense of belonging on campus. Our commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and respect is critical to our land-grant mission and serving our communities.”
The following are some of the available resources:
Connects with current multicultural students to provide on- and off-campus resources to help them succeed and excel.
Collaborates with the NDSU community to facilitate equitable access in academic pursuits, promote self-advocacy and foster inclusion for students with disabilities.
NDSU provides education and information to our campus community in support of LGBTQ+ students, faculty and staff, and maintains partnerships with similar programs and organizations in the Fargo-Moorhead community and beyond. Support includes Safe Zone Ally training, an LGBTQ+ resource room and opportunities to connect with groups on and off campus. NDSU’s LGBTQ+ programs collaborate with campus departments, student organizations, administration and community groups to advocate for the needs and concerns of LGBTQ+ students on campus.
Designed to enhance the educational experience of students with disabilities, first-generation or income eligible students with specialized academic advising, one-on-one tutoring, career exploration options, mentoring and more.
Dedicated to providing a sense of belonging, affirmation and value, freedom to be and education and growth. Residence Life includes support, resources and connection through Major Minorities of Residence Life, Diversity Initiative Leaders, LGBTQ+ roommate matching and initiatives that value a climate where every individual is encouraged and supported.
NDSU has nearly 300 student groups, clubs and organizations, including many whose purpose is to support specific cultures or personal identities. These include the Black Student Association, Native American Student Association and LGBTQ+ Programs. Student organizations work to promote an inclusive environment and belonging on campus.
International Student and Study Abroad Office
Dedicated to advancing international education and engaging students, faculty and staff in the global community.
Helps veterans or currently serving military members prepare to continue their education. It provides academic skills refresher resources, training, tutoring and guidance throughout each student’s academic experience.
A confidential setting for students to explore concerns of a personal or academic nature. It provides personal and group counseling as well as workshops, classes and assessments. The center is committed to recognizing the impact that racism, xenophobia and transphobia have on the mental health and well-being of black, indigenous and all people of color.

The Office of the Vice Provost for Faculty and Equity is the central resource for implementation, coordination and monitoring of equal opportunity, affirmative action, and non-discrimination compliance and initiatives at NDSU.
The NDSU Student Code of Conduct is being reviewed and updated with a lens toward equity, inclusion and innovation. “Our Code of Student Conduct needs to be a document that more clearly enacts NDSU’s values,” said Casey Peterson, NDSU dean of students. “It needs to function as a statement of standards and accountability measures designed to help create the inclusive campus we envision.”
In addition to existing mandatory training for faculty and staff, diversity and cultural competency training will be provided for all incoming students beginning in fall 2021.
