Student resources: ACE Tutoring

Tutoring is available by individual or group appointments as well as online or on-campus. On-campus appointments are socially distanced.

ACE Tutoring is an academic support program available to NDSU undergraduates at no additional cost. Tutoring is led by successful upperclassmen peer tutors who offer support for 100-plus 100/200 level classes. Tutoring is available by individual or group appointments as well as online or on-campus. On-campus appointments are socially distanced.

“Ace Tutoring is an amazing resource for students to be able to get the help when needed,” said Andrew Jones, a senior mechanical engineering major. “There are always great tutors there that know what you're going through, so they can relate and help in many different ways.”

ACE, or Academic Collegiate Enhancement, provides three ways to receive tutoring help:

On Campus and Online Peer Tutoring

During the pandemic, ACE offers individual tutoring sessions that can be scheduled through the Navigate web portal or Navigate student app. Socially-distanced sessions are offered on-campus at the West Dining Center and online. Students can pre-schedule up to four 30-minute tutoring appointments at a time.

Small Group Peer Tutoring

Small group tutoring provides students with the opportunity to meet virtually at a pre-scheduled time each week to review course materials and ask questions. Groups consist of a tutor and three to six students from the same course. Small groups meet for 50 minutes via Zoom.

Smarthinking Online Tutoring

Smarthinking is a nationwide online tutoring service that provides tutoring 24 hours a day, seven days a week in math, science, writing, business, computers and technology, and nursing and allied health. Smarthinking tutors are not affiliated with NDSU and typically hold master’s or doctoral degrees in their fields of study.

ACE tutors are current NDSU students who have taken the classes and received high grades and recommendations from their professors. As tutors, they must maintain high academic achievement throughout their employment and go through the required training to receive certification through the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA).

More information about ACE Tutoring and how to schedule a tutoring session can be found online.
