Hettinger Research Extension Center field tour set

The annual field tour at NDSU’s Hettinger Research Extension Center is scheduled for Tuesday, July 13, at 5 p.m. Mountain time starting at the HREC Agronomy and Range Research Laboratory.

The topics and speakers are:

• Weed management update - Joe Ikley, NDSU Extension weed specialist

• Wheat diseases and seed treatments - Andrew Friskop, NDSU Extension plant pathologist

• Weed-control research conducted at the HREC - Caleb Dalley, weed scientist at the center

• Spring wheat varieties and breeding program - Andrew Green, NDSU hard red spring wheat breeder

• Barley and durum wheat varieties - John Rickertsen, research agronomist at the center

• Industrial hemp and other emerging markets - Dave Ripplinger, NDSU bioproducts/bioenergy economist

• Information on other new crop varieties and agronomy research projects at the center

“The tour will give producers information about new varieties, agronomic practices and current crop production issues, along with an opportunity to learn about potential new markets for producers,” Rickertsen said.

Following the tour is a free meal at the Agronomy and Range Research Lab sponsored by Northern Pulse Growers, Southwest Grain and the Hettinger Chamber of Commerce.

All activities are free.
