Somnath Banerjee, assistant professor of marketing, is featured in a recent WalletHub.com article.

The article, titled “87 million Americans will look at cars to buy this Labor Day Weekend,” features Banerjee’s in-depth answers to four questions about car shopping during Labor Day weekend.

The questions include: What are your expectations for Labor Day weekend 2021 car sales?

“My expectations for the Labor Day weekend 2021 car sales would be that this year’s car sales would be high considering that we are coming from a period of artificially depressed demand due to the COVID situation last year,” Banerjee said. “The pent-up demand for car sales is likely to show in this year’s sales as the economy recovers from the COVID slow down. The fact that the economy grew by around 6.5 percent last quarter would probably also boost car sales. Two issues that may, however, be of concern could be that the consumer sentiment recently fell in August and that some car manufacturers are reeling from chip shortages due to which they may not be able to supply as many vehicles to their dealerships.”

Banerjee joined the NDSU faculty in 2015. He earned a bachelor’s degree in physics at Patna University in India and a Master of Business Administration at International Management Institute in India. He earned his doctorate in business administration with an emphasis on marketing at the University of Central Florida.
