Challey School of Music students shine at competition

The NDSU Challey School of Music placed a record nine semifinalists and seven finalists at the Minnesota National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) competition. The competitors included two division winners  – Tessa Hartl, a December graduate in vocal performance from New Rockford, North Dakota, and Zion Zaloudeck, a graduate student in vocal performance from River Falls, Wisconsin.

The finalists included:

CL 5A

Second place - Hannah Ray, a freshman vocal music major from Faribault, Minnesota

CL7A

Third place - Mariah Seidel, a junior majoring in music and psychology from Fergus Falls, Minnesota

CL8A

Second place - Seth Brandl, a senior vocal education major from Grand Forks, North Dakota

Third place - Nicholas Hovey, a senior majoring in vocal education from New Rockford, North Dakota

CL9A

First place - Hartl

Second place - Camden Pruitt, a graduate student in vocal performance from Woodstock, Georgia

CL10

First place - Zaloudeck

Students wishing to advance to the National NATS competition will submit an audition video to the North Central NATS Region, which will select winners in March for students to compete at the NATS National Event. The semifinals and finals are scheduled for July 1-6 in Chicago.
