Battle of the Cents-es to benefit NDSU student's family

The 11th Battle of the Cents-es fundraiser will benefit the family of a third-year NDSU pharmacy student who recently lost his daughter to a rare heart condition.

The annual NDSU competition between Student Ambassadors from the College of Health Professions and the College of Engineering runs from March 28 to April 1.

Donations this year can be given via coins, bills and Venmo.

Donation sites:

Aldevron Tower, Engineering Complex (CME Auditorium) and Memorial Union

Donation times at sites:

• Monday through Thursday, March 28-31

11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

• Friday, April 1

11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Coins and Venmo donations will be counted as positive points toward each college’s total, and dollar bills will act as negative points that will be subtracted from each college’s total.

NDSU student Brendan Anderson and his wife, Brittany, welcomed twin girls, Wren and Ari, on Jan. 6. Born six weeks premature, the girls were immediately admitted into the NICU, Wren was diagnosed with TAPVR, a rare but serious heart condition. She was transferred to Minneapolis Children’s Hospital. On Jan. 14, she developed metabolic acidosis, which led to multiple organ failure. Despite the best efforts of her medical team, Wren died the following night.

Ari has since been able to leave the NICU and is home with her parents.
