Susanne Caro, government information librarian, is one of five new members who have been appointed to the Depository Library Council. The council advises the director of the Government Publishing Office on policy matters relating to the Federal Depository Library Program.

Caro and the other new members will serve from June 1, 2022, to May 31, 2025.

“I am excited and honored to be appointed to the Depository Library Council,” Caro said. “I am looking forward to working with a very talented group of professionals to advise the director and the Government Publishing Office on issues of importance to government librarians and those who work with government information.”

Caro will work on researching, writing and editing of committee recommendations. The committee has advised the GPO on issues like maintaining access to and the preservation of electronic formats, how to deal with pandemic-related challenges and equity of access.

“The U.S. Government Publishing Office welcomes the new members of the council,” said GPO director Hugh Halpern. “I look forward to their advice on the best ways to continue expanding access to digital government information, adding new collections and preserving historic materials.”

Caro is a joint regional coordinator of the Federal Depository Library Program for North Dakota. She was the editor and an author of Digitizing Your Collection and Government Information Essentials, which won the 2019 Margaret T. Lane/Virginia F. Saunders Memorial Research Award.

The GPO is the federal government’s resource for publishing information for the government to the American people. It is responsible for the production and distribution of information products and services for all three branches of the federal government, including U.S. passports for the Department of State as well as the official publications of Congress, the White House and other federal agencies in digital and print formats.
