Josie Wicks has been named Outstanding Graduate in the NDSU School of Nursing at Sanford Health, Bismarck, for the class of May 2022.

Wicks, who is from Richardton, North Dakota, served as president of Student Council, participated in the Nursing Student Association, was a tutor and is a member of the Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society.

“I strive to make a difference in every life I come across,” Wicks said. “Whether that is in the classroom, the hospital, the rodeo arena or the ranch, I will always put in my best effort.”

“Josie was chosen because of her exceptional achievement in both the classroom and clinical setting, her leadership and involvement in the school and her commitment to the nursing profession,” said Charys Kunkel, assistant professor of practice and director of NDSU Nursing at Sanford Health in Bismarck.

“NDSU Nursing has helped me gain knowledge and build a strong foundation while allowing me to strengthen all skills related to the field,” said Wicks. “It has also provided me the opportunity to connect with patients and peers, and it has left me with great memories with my fellow classmates, faculty, and staff.”

After graduation, Wicks plans to work in cardiac care on a telemetry unit at a Bismarck hospital. “Being a nurse means you never stop learning new things and that is one part that excites me about my up-coming career,” Wicks said. She hopes to gain experience and then further her education to teach others.

Wicks and her classmates will celebrate their achievements during a Nurse Pinning Ceremony for family and friends on Friday, May 6.  She is the daughter of Mary Jo and Zane Wicks of Richardton.
