8 fun things to do in Fargo-Moorhead this fall

There are several fun things to do in Fargo-Moorhead this fall, including the Red River Market (above). It's a local favorite destination that runs on Saturdays until Oct. 29.

There are many fun, fall events to enjoy in the Fargo-Moorhead area this season. In fact, the community often is listed among the best college towns and best places to live in the country. F-M recently was named one of the best cities for new graduates in 2022 by Insurify.com.

There is plenty to see and do this fall. The air is crisp and the community is warm and welcoming, so let’s get out and experience the season.

Here are eight things to enjoy this fall:

Pumpkin patch

  1. Visit pumpkin patches

Lil Bitz Pumpkin Patch in Fargo has more than 25 attractions, including horse drawn wagon rides, pick your own pumpkin and a corn maze. The site is open every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from Sept. 18 to Oct. 31.

Buffalo River Pumpkin Patch in Glyndon, Minnesota, includes a petting zoo, game area, horse drawn carriage ride, duck races and more. It’s open Saturdays and Sundays from Sept. 24 to Oct. 30.

  1. Take a bite out of the Apple Harvest Festival

Take in the fall vibes at the 4th Annual Apple Harvest Festival on Sept. 25 in downtown Fargo. Enjoy food from local restaurants and food trucks, explore activities including a petting zoo, chainsaw art demonstrations and fall goods and craft vendors, and get your fill of fresh, local apples and pumpkins.

  1. Browse the Red River Market

The Red River Market is a local favorite in downtown Fargo on Saturdays. The market is located in Broadway Square and runs from July 9 to Oct. 29. Stock up on fall produce and locally-made goods and crafts. Bring a friend and strike a pose in the photo booth, enjoy art demos, live music and local food.

Hiking

  1. Explore the outdoors

Buffalo River State Park in Glyndon, Minnesota, has 12 miles of hiking trails that are open during the fall season. Take in the colorful leaves and hear the rush of the Buffalo River as you make your way around River View trail. Prairie View Trail, a 2.2-mile loop near the edge of the park, has terrific views of wildlife and is one of Minnesota’s largest prairie preserves.

Take the Wellness Center outdoors with the equipment rentals from Outdoor Adventures. You can rent tents, camping gear, canoes, kayaks, outdoor games and more.   1. Have a spooky good time

Unexplainable and creepy things have been reported by visitors at Bonanzaville Museum in West Fargo. Take a night tour of Bonanzaville’s most haunted spots and discover their ghosts on weekends in October.

The Haunted Farm, 10 miles outside of Moorhead, Minnesota, is a Halloween adventure filled with creepy clowns, scary screams and zombies. Bring a group of friends who love a good scare. The full haunted show includes a haunted house, several haunted rooms, a maze and a spine-tingling walk through a dark, wooded area.

Chase your fears at the Fargo-Moorhead Halloween Run on October 28 and 29. Race weekend starts with the Friday Fright Night 5k. Run the 5K, 10K or half-marathon events along the beautiful route on the Red River on Saturday. Costumes are encouraged.

Canoe parade

  1. Paddle in the Canoe Parade

Decorate a canoe and paddle with friends in a procession down a scenic section of the Red River in Moorhead during the Canoe Parade on Sept. 17.

There also are several spots for spectators along the river parade route. Watch from the shore at various viewing areas on the Viking Ship Park River Trails.

  1. Celebrate the start of the school year at the Bridge Bash

Stop by the Fix It Forward Bridge Bash for local students on Sept. 18 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m at Viking Ship Park in Moorhead. Enjoy live music, entertainment, food, giveaways and more. Swag bags will be handed out to the first 300 students.

  1. Fall in love with Fargo at the Fall in Fargo Festival

Celebrate the change in seasons at the Fall in Fargo Festival. The free event at the Rheault Farm is Sept. 17 and 18 and Sept. 24 and 25. Enjoy a straw bale maze, farm petting zoo, carnival games, pumpkin patch and more.
