Carol Cwiak, assistant professor in the Department of Emergency Management, taught a Federal Emergency Management Agency course titled “Integrating Emergency Management into Your Institution" to a group of Hispanic Serving Institutions at the Emergency Management Institute March 26 and 27.

The course seeks to build institutional capital in minority-serving higher education institutions by facilitating the development and growth of emergency management course work and degree offerings at historically black colleges and universities, Hispanic serving institutions, tribal colleges and universities and other higher education minority-serving institutions. The course is intended to help build greater diversity in the emergency management professional community. College and university administrators and faculty members attending the course are provided information on the market for emergency management graduates, the needs assessment process, resources available, research opportunities, faculty and staffing considerations and unique issues facing minority-serving institutions.

Cwiak also served as a subject matter expert for the course development stage, helped craft and review final course materials, and has taught the course in past offerings to historically black colleges and universities and tribal colleges and universities.
