Architecture models on exhibit at Main Library

Even though it’s cold and snowy outside, there’s a blast of sunshine inside the NDSU Main Library. Undergraduate students from the Department of Architecture and Landscape Architecture are displaying models of lifeguard towers in the library through the spring semester.

Inspired by the creative and colorful lifeguard towers of Miami’s South Beach, an assignment for the Environmental Control Systems course gave students a chance to demonstrate their knowledge of solar geometry. Each student was to design and build a unique “passive solar” design solution for a lifeguard tower set within a given latitude, city or beach in the United States.

The library is grateful to David Crutchfield, assistant professor of architecture and landscape architecture, as well as the third-year architecture students for this opportunity to display their work.
