Sassi

Kelly Sassi, assistant professor of English and English education, presented a paper as part of a panel at the 2013 American Education Research Association’s annual conference held in San Francisco. The paper, titled “Toward ‘A More Nuanced Understanding of Cultural Practice’: Keeping Race Central in Discussions of Native American Literature and Stereotypes in a Multiracial Classroom” was included in a panel, titled “‘Race Still Matters’: Studying Race in Classroom Interaction Using Critical Discourse Analysis – from the Bottom Up.”

The panel included Ebony Elizabeth Thomas from the University of Pennsylvania and Amy Carpenter Ford from Central Michigan University. The methodology used by all three presenters was formulated by Ayanna Brown from Elmhurst College, Chicago, who was chair and respondent for the session.
