Jeremy Penn, director of university assessment and testing at Oklahoma State University, has been named director of Division of Student Affairs assessment at NDSU. He begins his new duties July 23.

This is a new position to the division, said Prakash Mathew, vice president for student affairs. “Within the Division of Student Affairs, students learn in various contexts outside the classroom. We feel this contributes significantly to the overall development and education of the student. The new assessment director position will provide leadership to the division departments in order to effectively measure the learning opportunities,” Mathew said. “This position will coordinate evidence of Student Affairs’ contribution to the student’s educational experience at NDSU.”

A native of Sioux Falls, S.D., Penn has been at Oklahoma State University since 2009, where he managed an annual budget of more than $650,000 and supervised six full-time staff. He previously was the program assessment coordinator for the Office of Undergraduate Studies at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Penn earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in curriculum and instruction in mathematics and doctorate in qualitative, quantitative and psychometric methods at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

His vita lists 27 presentations and publications, plus 17 faculty development workshops he created and presented. Penn’s research interests focus on measuring and improving student learning and development, along with applying advance statistical methods to improve interpretation of assessment data.
