Summer 2024 First-Year Students - Prepare for Class Registration

The registration steps below are for first-year students starting classes in the 2024 summer semester.  If you will start classes in the 2024 fall semester, follow the steps listed on the fall 2024 first-year student webpage.

Step 1:  Sign Up for an Individualized Class Registration Appointment

You will meet with an academic advisor virtually via Zoom to talk about class selection and register.  Prior to your appointment, please resolve any enrollment holds you might have.  

Have your changed your major?

  • If you wish to change your major from the one you listed on your application to NDSU, update us at ndsu.apply@ndsu.edu or (800) 488-6378.  Please include your seven-digit NDSU ID in communications, which can be found in your admission letter.
Step 2: Complete Pre-Registration Steps

Complete the following pre-registration steps at least one week before your class registration appointment.  Use your Bison Login for each of these steps.

You Belong Here Online Orientation
  • Completion is estimated to take one hour, and you may stop and return as often as you wish.
  • You must submit the Completion Survey at the end of You Belong Here.
  • Your family and friends may also complete You Belong Here by using the guest login option. 
Math Placement Survey
  • All students must complete the survey even if they have math transfer credit.
  • The estimated completion time is 2 minutes
  • The survey does not replace official transcripts.  You will still need to send your final high school transcript to NDSU along with any transcripts from colleges that awarded your college level credit (if applicable).
English Placement Survey
  • All students must complete the survey even if they have English transfer credit.
  • The estimated completion time is 10 minutes
  • The survey does not replace official transcripts.  You will still need to send your final high school transcript to NDSU along with any transcripts from colleges that awarded your college-level credit (if applicable).

Send Official Transcripts
  • An official transcript from each college must be sent for all PSEO, dual credit, and CIS coursework. Your high school transcript will not be used for any college courses. You are encouraged to send official college transcripts prior to your virtual appointment with an academic advisor, to assist with advising and registration. If you choose to wait to send official transcripts until after you have completed all courses, you should be prepared to show your academic advisor an unofficial transcript or log into your student account during your virtual advising session. 
  • Upon graduation, have your high school send an official transcript showing all final grades and your graduation date

Send ACT or SAT and Advanced Placement (AP) Scores
  • If you have ACT, SAT, or Advanced Placement (AP) scores, please request the scores are sent from College Board to the NDSU Office of Registration and Records.
