Fall 2024 Transfer Students - Prepare for Class Registration and Orientation

The steps below are for transfer students starting classes in the 2024 fall semester.  If you will start classes in the 2024 summer semester, follow the steps listed on the summer 2024 transfer student webpage.

Step 1:  Sign Up for an Individualized Class Registration Appointment

You will meet with an academic advisor virtually via Zoom to talk about class selection and register.  Prior to your appointment, please resolve any enrollment holds you might have.

Have your changed your major?

  • If you wish to change your major from the one you listed on your application to NDSU, update us at ndsu.apply@ndsu.edu or (800) 488-6378.  Please include your seven-digit NDSU ID in communications, which can be found in your admission letter.
Step 2: Complete Pre-Registration Steps

Complete the following pre-registration steps at least one week before your class registration appointment.  Use your Bison Login for each of these steps.

You Belong Here Online Orientation
  • Completion is estimated to take one hour, and you may stop and return as often as you wish.
  • You must submit the Completion Survey at the end of You Belong Here.
  • Your family and friends may also complete You Belong Here by using the guest login option.
Math Placement Survey
  • All students must complete the survey even if they have math transfer credit.
  • The estimated completion time is 2 minutes
  • The survey does not replace official transcripts.  You will still need to send transcripts that awarded your college level credit.
English Placement Survey
  • All students must complete the survey even if they have English transfer credit.
  • The estimated completion time is 10 minutes
  • The survey does not replace official transcripts.  You will still need to send transcripts that awarded your college level credit.
Step 3: Make an On-Campus Orientation Reservation

Transfer students are encouraged to attend an on-campus or virtual Orientation.

  • Instructions for making a reservation will be sent to your email two business days after you complete all pre-registration steps above.
  • We strongly encourage you to register for classes before Orientation.  However, if you haven't met virtually with an academic advisor to register by your Orientation date, you will register during Orientation.
  • Please contact ndsu.admission@ndsu.edu with questions.
Send Documents
Send Official Transcripts
  • An official final transcript for all in-progress college coursework must be sent to the NDSU Office of Admission by July 31. You are encouraged to send any in-progress official transcripts not already on file, prior to your virtual appointment with an academic advisor to assist with advising and registration. If you choose to wait to send official transcripts until after you have completed all courses, you should be prepared to show your academic advisor an unofficial transcript or log into your student account during your advising session.
  • Learn how to send your official documents to NDSU.
Send ACT or SAT and Advanced Placement (AP) Scores
  • If you have ACT, SAT, or Advanced Placement (AP) scores, please request the scores be sent from College Board to the NDSU Office of Registration and Records.
