U.S. Chief Pharmacy Officer discusses future of pharmacy with NDSU students

Rear Admiral Pamela Schweitzer, the chief pharmacy officer and assistant surgeon general in the U.S. Public Health service, shared her view of the future of pharmacy in public health with students in the NDSU School of Pharmacy and the Master of Public Health program on Friday, April 24. She also met with NDSU President Dean L. Bresciani.

“NDSU is unique in having public health as a required course for Pharm.D. students, as well as a Master of Public Health program associated with pharmacy practice,” said Mark Strand, associate professor of pharmacy practice. ”Rear Admiral Schweitzer’s time with us broadened our understanding of how important this public health-pharmacy integration is, and how to gain maximal value from the partnership of both disciplines.”

Schweitzer provides leadership and coordination of United States Public Health Service pharmacy programs and professional affairs for the Office of Surgeon General and the Department of Health and Human Services.
