Maanum receives award from Essentia Health

Fourth-year NDSU pharmacy student Tony Maanum received the Essentia Health Dianne Witten Excellence Award for his clinical knowledge, initiative, and drive during his Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience at Essentia Health.

“He worked with many of the pharmacy leadership team members and system pharmacy leaders throughout the rotation, proving his flexibility and willingness to engage at all levels of our organization,” said a leadership team member who nominated Tony.

“He is professional and shows up ready to work, demonstrating good personal drive and the ability to work independently,” said the nominator. “His review of data and analysis of data was thorough and robust.” 

Maanum contributed to many projects, including:

  • Anteroom inventory project and review of documents
  • Long-acting insulin process change, communication to pharmacy and nursing, understand how to create buy-in and acceptance of change
  • Transitions of Care
  • Competency for students completed
  • Abstract, poster, manuscript
  • Crash cart process review – standard work and competency for pharmacy staff
  • Benzylkonium Albuterol review
  • Contrast utilization review, with inventory analysis
  • Epic Inventory optimization
  • Chronic Kidney Disease patient panel review and analysis for West Market
  • Board of Pharmacy Specialties review for NDSHP

“I am excited for the patients he will serve and the pharmacy profession to count him as a colleague as he prepares to be a pharmacist this next year,” said a leadership team member at Essentia Health.

The award recognizes Maanum’s quality of work, strength of clinical knowledge, ability to serve patients, dedication to teamwork, and displaying respect and joy as Essentia Health values.

At NDSU, Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE) is comprised of 8 five-week rotations during the fourth professional year. Five of the eight rotations are required rotations including; ambulatory care, acute care, institutional, community advanced, and rural health. The remaining three rotations are considered elective rotations and are chosen based on student personal and professional preferences.

The NDSU School of Pharmacy offers pathways of opportunity to pursue an array of pharmacy careers. Degree programs offered include PharmD, as well as dual degrees in PharmD/MPH, PharmD/MBA, PharmD/PhD and master’s and doctorate degrees in pharmaceutical sciences.
