Education:
Ph.D., Wildlife Ecology, Oklahoma State University (2010-2014)
M.S., Wildlife Ecology, Iowa State University (2007-2010)
B.A., Biology, University of Northern Iowa (2001-2005)

Research Interests:
Global change, Avian Ecology, Fire Ecology, Rangeland Management

My research is very applied in nature and typically focuses on managing working landscapes to promote wildlife habitat while maintaining human interests and well-being. I am particularly interested in the effects of restored disturbance regimes on rangeland habitat and wildlife populations. My other primary interest is the role of global change (climate and human altered environments) on rangeland wildlife.

Current and Upcoming Research Activities:

  • Effects of land management on Lepidopteron site occupancy and abundance
  • Influence of differing grazing practices on native rangeland wildlife
  • North Dakota statewide pollinator distribution and abundance
  • Bat resource selection in the Sheyenne Grasslands
  • Mixed-grass prairie bird nesting ecology

*I am currently building an active research team. Please, feel free to contact me by email if you are interested in a graduate position (torre.hovick@ndsu.edu).

Courses to be taught:

RNG 213 Rangeland Management Techniques
RNG 749 Global Change Ecology
