Our Students

Students who enroll in our courses are given the opportunity to think critically about the role of the individual in society and develop an understanding of other cultures.  We also demonstrate to our students how the tools and principles of sociology and anthropology are fundamental to the university's mission of understanding our global society.  We provide students with the analytic and technical skills necessary to examine human behavior in social and cultural settings over time and space and offer them service learning opportunities to apply these principles.

Our Research

Our research scholarship reflects the pursuit of both applied and basic research, and illustrates that the line between applied and basic research is often indistinct.  We are committed to creating and disseminating knowledge that can be applied locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally. The service mission of the department focuses on commitment to faculty governance at the university level, programs and constituents at the community level (outreach), and participation in disciplinary service. Our outreach efforts are scholarly driven in that we attempt to apply sociological and anthropological principles and tools to examine and solve problems faced by various groups.
