Cooperative Soil Survey

The Soil Science Department is a partner with soil survey staff of the Natural Resources Conservation Service, assigned to Major Land Resource Area 56, the Red River Valley of the North. Soil surveys have been completed for all the counties in the valley, and out of this office the modernization of these surveys is being coordinated.

The staff is able to provide soil information in the form of maps and legends for the counties in MLRA 56, or direct you to other personnel if unable to fulfill your request. They are also available for instruction or demonstration in soil-related topics for schools and other community groups.

What Is It?

The Soil Science department has hosted groups of K-12 students as they have toured campus for science related field trips.  This web page gave the students an opportunity to see some of the things soil scientists use on a daily basis.
