Frequently Asked Questions

How many students are accepted to Upward Bound?
Upward Bound can serve a total of 52 students each year from Fargo-Moorhead High Schools. Typically, that means there are 12-15 spots available each academic year.

How does a student become a participant in the Upward Bound program?
Students must complete an application to get started. Then, students (and their parents/guardians) will meet with UB staff to talk about the commitment to the program and confirm their eligibility.

Do participants need to reapply each year?
No, once a student is accepted into the program, they are participants until their high school graduation.

How much does Upward Bound cost?
Upward Bound is free to participants. All costs are paid for by the U.S. Department of Education.

Does Upward Bound provide transportation to/from Upward Bound events and services?
Unfortunately, no. It is not feasible for the UB staff to drive around the FM-area to pick up our 52 students, so getting transportation is a responsibility of the student/ family. However, Upward Bound does offer students a college ID card so that they can take the city busses as a mode of transportation.

If I am accepted to Upward Bound, can I still be in other extra-curricular activities or hold a job?
Yes! Upward Bound isn’t meant to replace your other activities or jobs. Just ensure your schedule allows for you to participate in the program requirements before accepting placement into UB.

I am a current UB student and I want to schedule my meeting with my advisor, how do I do that?
Great question! The Upward Bound staff schedules appointments through Microsoft Bookings. Follow this link: https://linktr.ee/ndsuub, then select your school, and then your advisor's name to see their availability.
