Chapter 30 — Active Duty Veteran
- Complete application (form 22-1990 for Education Benefits) available online
- Provide copy of DD-214, copy 4
- Provide copy of Kicker Contract, if applicable
- Mail 214 and Kicker to: VA Regional Office, P.O. Box 66830, St. Louis, MO 63166-6830
- Once you receive your Certificate of Eligibility, you must bring a copy to the NDSU VA Representative in 211 Ceres Hall so that your enrollment is certified and you begin receiving benefits. Allow 10-12 weeks for processing.

Chapter 33 — Post 9/11 GI Bill®
You may be eligible if you served at least 90 aggregate days on active duty* after September 10, 2001, or were honorably discharged from active duty for a service-connected disability after serving 30 continuous days following September 10, 2001. To apply:
Note: Children of a member of the Armed Forces who died in the line of duty on or after September 11, 2001, may be eligible for Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits under the Marine Gunnery John David Fry Scholarship Program.
- Complete application (veterans use form 22-1990, dependents use 22-1990e) available online
- Provide copy of DD-214, copy 4
- Provide copy of Kicker Contract, if applicable
- Mail 214 and Kicker to: VA Regional Office, P.O. Box 66830, St. Louis, MO 63166-6830
- Once you receive your Certificate of Eligibility, you must bring a copy to the NDSU VA Representative in 211 Ceres Hall so that your enrollment is certified and you begin receiving benefits. Allow 10-12 weeks for processing.

Chapter 1606 — National Guard and/or Reservist (not activated)
You may be eligible for chapter 1606 benefits if you meet the following requirements:
- Incur a six-year Selected Reserve Obligation. You must enter into a six-year obligation to serve in the Selected Reserve. If you’re an officer, you must agree to serve six years in addition to your current obligation.
- Complete your IADT (Initial Active Duty for Training).
- Maintain Selected Reserve Status. Serve in a drilling Selected Reserve unit and remain in good standing.
- Complete High School. You must obtain a high school diploma or equivalency certificate before you apply for benefits.
To apply:
- Complete application (form 22-1990 for Education Benefits) available online
- Provide copy of Notice of Basic Eligibility (NOBE)
- Provide copy of Kicker Contract, if applicable
- Mail NOBE and Kicker to: VA Regional Office, P.O. Box 66830, St. Louis, MO 63166-6830
- Once you receive your Certificate of Eligibility, you must bring a copy to the NDSU VA Representative in 211 Ceres Hall so that your enrollment is certified and you begin receiving benefits. Allow 10-12 weeks for processing.

Chapter 1607 — National Guard and/or Reservist (activated)
You may be eligible for REAP benefits if you meet the following requirements:
- Served on active duty on or after September 11, 2001, in support of a contingency operation for 90 consecutive days or more; or
- Performed full-time National Guard duty under section 502 (f) of title 32 for 90 consecutive days or more when authorized by the President or Secretary of Defense for the purpose of responding to a national emergency declared by the President and supported by Federal funds; or
- A member called or ordered to active service while serving in the Selected Reserve remains entitled to benefits under REAP only by continuing to serve in the Selected Reserve. A member called or ordered to active service from the Individual Ready Reserve (IRR) remains entitled to benefits under REAP by continuing to serve in the Ready Reserve (either Selected Reserve or IRR).

- Complete application (form 22-1990 for Education Benefits) available online
- Provide copy of Kicker Contract, if applicable
- Provide copy of Activation Orders
- Provide copy of DD-214, copy 4
- Mail Kicker, Orders, and 214 to: VA Regional Office, P.O. Box 66830, St. Louis, MO 63166-6830
- Once you receive your Certificate of Eligibility, you must bring a copy to the NDSU VA Representative in 211 Ceres Hall so that your enrollment is certified and you begin receiving benefits. Allow 10-12 weeks for processing.

Chapter 31 — Veteran with a Service-Related Disability
- Call 1-800-827-1000 to schedule an appointment with a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor and to complete an application
- If you are found eligible, the appointment information will be forwarded to the NDSU VA Representative
- Call 1-877-823-2378 the first day of each month in order to verify your enrollment and receive your benefits
Chapter 35 — Dependent of a Veteran
- Call 1-800-827-1000 to schedule an appointment and to complete an application
- Once you receive your Certificate of Eligibility, you must bring a copy to the NDSU VA Representative in 211 Ceres Hall so that your enrollment is certified and you begin receiving benefits

Dependent of a Veteran Tuition & Fee Waiver
Chapter 35 benefited students may be eligible for a North Dakota tuition and fee waiver
- The student is the dependent of a North Dakota resident veteran who was killed in action or died from wounds or other service-connected causes, was totally disabled as a result of service-connected causes, died from service-connected injuries, was a prisoner of war or was declared missing in action
- and, the student is accepted for enrollment into any North Dakota state-supported institution of higher education or state-supported technical or vocational school
