Veterans Educational Training (VET)

Veterans Educational Training (VET) is a free program of study funded by the state of North Dakota to help military veterans prepare to continue their education, whether that's a two-year or four-year college degree, or a vocational or technical training program.

We work on an open-enrollment basis, meaning you can start VET at any time, even during the summer. Since study programs are built for each individual, there's no class start date to wait for; begin any time!

There is no college credit earned for participating in VET, and we are not an eligible GI Bill program.

Army ROTC Military Science

Army ROTC is an elective curriculum you take along with your required college classes. It prepares you with the tools, training and experiences that will help you succeed in any competitive environment. Along with great leadership training, Army ROTC can pay for your college tuition, and provide other monetary benefits.  The best part of the ROTC program is that it allows you to have a normal college student experience like everyone else on campus, but when you graduate, you will be a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army.

We develop students, both prior and non-prior service, into leaders that are ready and able to face the challenges of tomorrow.

Air Force ROTC Det 610

Our mission is to develop air and space force leaders of character whom we expect to fight and win our nation’s wars.

Join Air Force ROTC and be part of a tight-knit community of driven individuals striving to get the most out of their college experience, their career, and their lives.

How Air Force ROTC Works

Any student can join Air Force ROTC regarless of scholarship status or experience.

  1. Students take three Air Force ROTC courses per semester.
  2. Students selected to continue in the program will attend summer training, usually during the summer between their sophomore and junior year.
  3. There is no military obligation incurred by signing up for AFROTC.  Only after the first year (if on scholarship) or completion of summer training will students have a service commitment.

Why ROTC Air Force at NDSU?

  • In-state tuition rates and monthly stipend of $300-500 for contracted students.

  • Tuition scholarships available to both underclassmen (by application) and upperclassmen (by eligibility).
  • Gain world-class practical leadership training not available in your typical university course.
  • Flight, language, and expeditionary skills training are also available as well as special tactics orientation and department of defense internships.
  • AFROTC obligations will not conflict with academics, including NDSU’s engineering and nursing programs.
