The Interior Design program focuses on improving the quality of life and protecting human health and safety through design of the interior environment. Interior designers work in an ever-changing and dynamic industry and the NDSU Interior Design program provides you with a hands-on studio experience and a capstone project ensure you’re ready for your career.
Meet professionals on industry tours and in the classroom, learn about commercial and residential interior design, building information modeling, business and project management, building codes, and construction documents.
The interior design program leading to the B.A or B.S. Interior Design is accredited by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation, www.accredit-id.org, 206 Grandville Avenue, Suite 350, Grand Rapids, MI, 49503.
The CIDA-accredited program prepares students for entry-level interior design practice, for advanced study, and to apply for membership in professional interior design organizations. The B.A or B.S. Interior Design granted by North Dakota State University meets the educational requirement for eligibility to sit for the National Council for Interior Design Qualification Examination (NCIDQ Exam). The interior design program received re-accreditation in 2016. The interior design program is also accredited through the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD).

Third year students tour multiple firms and dealerships in Minneapolis and St. Paul during the Professional Practice course.
Student Work
Take a moment to review the top-quality work our students produce at NDSU. Examine student portfolios, senior capstone projects and research projects that showcase the great talent of our students and define the preparation for the interior design degree and a career in the profession.
Venture out
A study tour is a short-term learning opportunity that is completed off-campus. Study tours are offered approximately once per year and are variable credit. Study tours are not required and are optional course offerings for majors in the program. This is an opportunity for students to learn more about the industry beyond what can be taught in the classrooms. An international study tour to Europe is typically offered once every three years.
