Dennis Steinman
Dennis Steinman, a distinguished alumnus of the IME Department, has made outstanding contributions in both his professional career and his dedicated service to the department and the community.
Dennis's career spans over four decades in the supply chain industry, with significant leadership roles that have shaped the operations of major companies. After earning his BSIE from NDSU in 1984, Dennis began his career with Gateway Food, Inc. as an Industrial Engineer, where he spent nearly 11 years honing his expertise. His subsequent positions include high-level management and project leadership roles at PepsiCo, J.D. Edwards, and Christopher & Banks. For the past 13 years, Dennis has served as the General Manager at the UNFI warehouse in Fargo, where he has successfully managed operations and made a lasting impact on the organization.
Dennis’s career is marked not only by his own success but also by his commitment to mentoring others. He has taken great pride in guiding many professionals who have gone on to become executive leaders in their own right. His influence and mentorship have left a legacy that continues to inspire and shape the industry.
Dennis’s contributions to the IME Department at NDSU are truly exemplary. For the past 10 years, he has served as an adjunct professor, teaching the IME Capstone course. His dedication to the department is evident in his decision to continue teaching for an additional year, despite his plans to retire, because of the department’s need for his expertise. Dennis’s willingness to step up in this critical moment underscores his deep commitment to the education and development of future engineers.
In addition to his role as an instructor, Dennis has served on the NDSU Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering Advisory Board, where he has provided invaluable guidance and support to the department. His insights and experience have been instrumental in shaping the direction of the program, ensuring that it remains relevant and effective in preparing students for the challenges of the industry.
Beyond his professional achievements, Dennis has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to serving his community. His volunteer work includes:
