Program Overview

Herd S-STEM Scholars Program

Our program awards scholarships of up to $9000 per year, for up to four years, to selected Biological Sciences students. In addition, students who receive scholarships are designated as Biological Sciences HERD scholars, and are eligible to participate in academic and career support programs that prepare them for college and career success.

Benefits of the Herd Scholars Program

Community

Herd Scholars will be a part of a supportive community of Scholars who share an interest in the biological sciences.

Academic and Career Programming

Herd Scholars participate in first-year and third-year seminar courses and other periodic workshops, social events and leadership opportunities.  The first-year seminar is designed to build comradery, give students’ academic support and introduce students to a variety of biological research and career paths. In the third-year seminar, students will build on their career-readiness skills and receive assistance with applying to graduate or professional schools, or obtaining a Biological Sciences related job.

Research Experience

The Herd Scholars program provides financial and logistical support to students interested in participating in an undergraduate research experience or internship.

Mentoring

Herd Scholars will be supported by a faculty mentor who participates in program activities and will also have the opportunity to work as a Peer Mentor with newer Scholars.

Applications are accepted until all scholarships have been awarded.  We begin awarding scholarships to 1st year and current NDSU students on February 1st, and to transfer students on April 1st
