Study Abroad

Starting in the Summer of 2024, the sport management program will be offering a faculty-led study abroad course and internship program led by Dr. Kelsey Slater. The first trip with bring students to Cape Town, South Africa where they will have the opportunity to learn about the history, culture and sport system of the Rainbow Nation. Key features of the first program include:

  • Interning with a sport organization in Cape Town
  • Interacting with professional sport organizations like the Cape Town Tigers
  • Visiting venues that hosted matches during the 2010 FIFA World Cup and the 1995 Rugby World Cup
  • Attending a professional rugby game and play Jukskei with local sport enthusiasts
  • Participating in ecotourism activities and understand how sport is influencing the tourism industry in South Africa

Future programs will explore other countries and their sport systems based on global sporting events, trends and student interest. The internationalization of our program is one of the major pillars of our program and we are excited to be able to provide our students with these opportunities. In addition to the faculty-led programming created by Sport Management faculty, there are numerous opportunities for semester or academic year study abroad through institutions across the world. Please visit NDSU’s Study Abroad Services Website to see all the international opportunities we have at our institution.

eSports

Faculty in the Sport Management (SM) Program have worked tirelessly with many individuals at NDSU to bring eSports to campus. We are now proud to say that we have a stand-alone eSports lab in the Student (Memorial) Union that is professionally outfitted.

Thanks to this initiative, 1-credit activity classes are now live to all NDSU students. Also, throughout the prescribed course guide, SM students are presented with multiple opportunities to engage with the brand-new equipment and can further educate themselves on the intricacies of the eSport context.

Join us and learn to be an influential leader within the eSport industry!
