NDSU head of visual arts to present at Open Action Workshop

Strand

Michael Strand, associate professor and head of visual arts, will be the first presenter at a new workshop program at Washington University in St. Louis.

Strand will present his recent work and lead the Open Action Workshop, scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 9, at 11 a.m. on the campus of Washington University.

The new workshop series is a collaboration between Washington University’s American Cultural Studies and the Art of the Rural. It creates an opportunity for scholars and artists from across the university to gather and exchange ideas around a central topic or body of work. The intimate and collegial workshops are open to members of the campus community, as well as scholars and artists practicing within the region, according to Washington University.

Strand is a ceramist whose work seeks to spark “benevolent disruptions” across the fields of art, craft, design, cultural studies, fieldwork, journalism, social science, activism and a host of other disciplines. At the core of his practice is the search to consider a piece of pottery not only as a made, aesthetic object, but as a bridge for engaging with historical and cultural context and communicating this understanding, with inventiveness and humanity, to a diverse range of communities.

More information on the event is available at http://amcs.wustl.edu/events/354.

NDSU is recognized as one of the nation’s top 108 public and private universities by the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education.
