Water resources fellows and advisers present at Bismarck conference

Several North Dakota Water Resources Research Institute fellows and affiliated faculty from NDSU presented at the 58th Annual Midwest Groundwater Conference on Sept. 23-25 in Bismarck. 

About 140 researchers and practicing professionals from government agencies, industries and universities in the Midwest attended the conference, which is an annual forum designed to share research and case studies related to all aspects of groundwater.

G. Padmanabhan, NDSU professor of civil engineering and the director of the institute, served on the planning committee and chaired a session. Francis Casey, NDSU professor of soil science and director of the School of Natural Resources, and Xinhua Jia, NDSU assistant professor of agriculture and biosystems engineering, also chaired sessions.

Other presentations by fellows and affiliate faculty included:

·      “Surface Modification of Nanoparticles with Food Starch for Groundwater Remediation Applications,” Achintya Bezbaruah, assistant professor of civil and environmental engineering

·      “Fate and Transport of Estrogenic Hormone in Subsurface Waters,” Francis Casey, professor of soil science

·      “Groundwater Level Response to Droughts in North Dakota,” Navaratnam Leelaruban, NDSU master student, and Padmanabhan.
