Martin Luther King Jr. Day events scheduled

The NDSU campus community will have an opportunity to celebrate the life of Martin Luther King Jr. and lend a hand at local nonprofits at a pair of events scheduled for Monday, Jan. 20 and Tuesday, Jan. 21.

A celebration of King’s life and legacy is slated for noon to 1 p.m. on Jan. 21 at the NDSU Memorial Union Hidatsa room.

The event, sponsored by the Office of Multicultural Programs and Compass Program Foundation, will feature readings from King’s “Letter From Birmingham Jail,” and musical and spoken-word performances.

The NDSU Volunteer Network also will host the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Service Plunge on Jan. 20 to give students the opportunity to turn a day off from school into a day of service. Students who participate can volunteer individually or in groups at various nonprofit agencies throughout the Fargo-Moorhead area.

For more information, contact the Student Activities Office at 701-231-1055 or email NDSU.volunteer.network@ndsu.edu.

NDSU is recognized as one of the nation’s top 108 public and private universities by the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education.
