NDSU football team adds assistant coaches

NDSU head football coach Chris Klieman has added wide receivers coach Atif Austin, defensive backs coach Joe Klanderman and tight ends/fullbacks coach Tyler Roehl to his staff. The announcement was made Jan. 23.

Austin was the running backs coach at Stetson University in 2013 with previous stops at the University of Northern Iowa and Southwest Minnesota State University. Klanderman spent the past 12 seasons at Minnesota State University, Mankato, including the last seven as defensive coordinator. Roehl returns to NDSU after working as a graduate assistant in 2011 and spending the past two seasons as the defensive coordinator and running backs coach at Moorhead High School.

Austin earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Iowa State University and a master’s degree in leadership and education from Southwest Minnesota State University. Klanderman earned a bachelor’s degree in social studies and a master’s degree in sports administration in from Minnesota State University, Mankato. A former Bison fullback and tailback, Roehl earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education from NDSU.

NDSU went 15-0 this past season and won its third consecutive NCAA Division I football championship.
