Documentary to highlight 100 years of theatre at NDSU

Prairie Public Broadcasting is helping the NDSU Department of Theatre Arts celebrate 100 years of theatre with the viewing of a historical documentary.

A screening of “The Past is Prologue: Celebrating 100 Years of Theatre at NDSU” is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 11, at 7:30 p.m. in Askanase Auditorium.

The event is free and open to the public. However, reservations are requested and can be made at 701-231-7932 or tammy.erdmann@ndsu.edu.

Featuring distinguished faculty and alumni, the documentary traces the history at theatre at NDSU, starting with Alfred Arvold's desire to bring theatre to the entire state to Fred Walsh's founding of the Medora Musical to the activities of current students and recent alumni. The documentary explores the passion behind the leaders of NDSU Theatre and how their activities created the solid foundation on which the program is based today.

Production funding for the program is provided by the NDSU Division of Performing Arts, NDSU Development Foundation Centennial Endowment, Major General Schroeder and Jean Schroeder, and by the members of Prairie Public.

A listing of additional centennial events is available at ndsu.edu/performingarts/theatre/history.

NDSU is recognized as one of the nation's top 108 public and private universities by the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education.
