Larry Reynolds, University Distinguished Professor of animal sciences, recently took a temporary appointment as the American Society of Animal Science’s scientific communications consultant beginning Jan. 1. His responsibilities include developing a new website for the Journal of Animal Science.

Reynolds recently traveled to Paris with Meghan Wulster-Radcliffe, CEO of the American Society of Animal Science, and Jim Sartin, president of the World Association of Animal Production, to meet with representatives of the World Association of Animal Production and European Federation of Animal Sciences. They explored the development of joint collaborative scientific communications initiatives among the societies.

A collaborative example is Animal Frontiers, a new scientific journal launched in July 2011 as “the review magazine of animal agriculture.” Published four times per year, the journal is a joint venture of the American Society of Animal Science, European Federation of Animal Sciences, the Canadian Society of Animal Sciences and the American Meat Science Association.

“I am excited to be involved in these initiatives, many of which were begun when I was editor-in-chief of JAS, and to be part of their implementation,” Reynolds said. “I also am very glad to be working with international animal science organizations, especially considering the ongoing globalization of animal sciences and the challenges of feeding the world’s rapidly expanding population.”
