Mohamed Khan, professor and Extension sugarbeet specialist in the NDSU plant pathology department with a joint appointment with University of Minnesota, was an invited speaker at the British Beet Research Organization annual winter conference Feb. 4 in Peterborough, England.

Khan shared his experiences dealing with the strategy of using genetically modified sugarbeets in managing weeds in the U.S. Khan’s presentation was featured in The Farmers Weekly, one of the largest arable crops newspapers in the United Kingdom.

Khan also had discussions with researchers from Rothamsted Research and made formal presentations to faculty, staff and students in the School of Life and Medical Sciences at the University of Hertfordshire in Hatfield, and the National Institute of Agricultural Botany, known as NIAB, in Cambridge. At the University of Hertfordshire, his topic was “The Sugar Story: from the Caribbean to the USA and Europe” and he discussed “The Role of the Extension Service in the USA” at NIAB.
