The North Dakota Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research/Institutional Development Award 2014 State Conference is scheduled for Tuesday, April 29, at the Alerus Center in Grand Forks, N.D. NDSU research faculty and their students are especially encouraged to attend.

The meeting will be held jointly with a convocation titled “Innovations and Expressions,” and include a poster session for undergraduates, graduates and postdocs for the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics, known as STEM. Oral presentations from non-STEM areas also are included. The conference provides opportunities for interactions between faculty, students, business and governmental leaders.

Stan Atcitty from the Department of Energy’s Energy Storage Program at Sandia National Laboratories is scheduled to be the keynote speaker. His research interests include power conversion systems and electrochemical capacitors and their applications in electric power systems that are both off-grid and grid-tied.

Two National Science Foundation program officers, Sian Mooney and Sian Kennan, also will be present and available for questions.

Two topical focus group discussions are scheduled. One will include epigenetics, regional climate studies, sustainable materials science, sustainable energy, and unmanned air vehicles. The second will discuss communicating science, grantsmanship, interdisciplinary work, K-12 outreach, tribal colleges and universities.
