English faculty member named journal editor

Totten

Gary Totten, professor and chair of English, has been named editor-in-chief of the journal MELUS: Multi-Ethnic Literature of the United States, published by Oxford University Press. He takes the position July 1.

Published quarterly, MELUS is considered the premier journal in the field and helps highlight the national and international and contexts of U.S. ethnic literature and culture.

“I have read and admired MELUS for many years, and it is an honor to have been selected as the next Editor-in-Chief,” Totten said. “The journal’s presence at NDSU also provides important training for English graduate students. Students working on the editorial staff will gain an inside view of the scholarly publishing process, make contact with top scholars around the world and engage in the editorial processes of peer review, copyediting, and proofing.”

MELUS is available online through Project MUSE, which sees more than 1,400 downloads of full-text articles from the journal per month. For more information about the journal and to view the current issue, visit http://melus.oxfordjournals.org/.

NDSU is recognized as one of the nation's top 108 public and private universities by the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education.
