Guest artists to give concert, lecture

NDSU Division of Performing Arts will host guest artists for an upcoming concert and lecture. The events are presented through the Dr. Scott Wood Guest Artist Series.

“Music of America” featuring Rex Richardson, guest trumpet, is scheduled for Wednesday, May 7, at 5 p.m. in Challey Atrium of the Reineke Fine Arts Center. The event is free and open to the public.

Richardson, a Yamaha performing artist, will join the NDSU Brass Ensemble and NDSU Jazz Combo to present a concert of favorite American music, including Copland's “Fanfare for the Common Man,” Gershwin's “I Got Rhythm” and “Turkey in the Straw.” Attendees will receive free ice cream.

“The Blues and Southern History with Steve Cheseborough,” is scheduled for May 9-10 in Beckwith Recital Hall.

Cheseborough, a guitarist, will recreate the blues and hokum of the 1920s-30s, interspersing the songs with stories, history and humor during a guest lecture, scheduled for Friday, May 9, at 7:30 p.m. He also is scheduled to give a recital on Saturday, May 10, at 7:30 p.m. Both events are free and open to the public.
