Four NDSU teams earn NCAA Public Recognition Awards

NDSU’s baseball, men's cross country, women's cross country and women's golf programs were honored by the NCAA on May 7 for top scores in the classroom.

Based on the most recent multi-year academic progress rate from the 2009-10 through 2012-13 seasons, the teams have earned NCAA Public Recognition Awards for posting scores in the top 10 percent of their sport.

The academic progress rate is an annual scorecard of academic achievement calculated for Division I sports teams. The rate for all Division I teams will be released May 14.

Teams must meet a certain academic threshold to qualify for the postseason, and they also can face penalties for continued low academic performance. The 1,049 teams publicly recognized for high achievement represent 631 women¹s teams and 418 men¹s or mixed squads. In 2013, 976 teams were recognized.

It was the fifth straight award for NDSU women's golf and the first for the baseball and cross country teams. The Summit League had a record total of 22 teams earn Public Recognition Awards.

NDSU is recognized as one of the nation's top 108 public and private universities by the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education.
