Biosafety officer hired

The NDSU University Police and Safety Office staff has added Jodie Haring to fill the newly created biosafety officer position.

According to associate director Mike Borr, the position is needed due to recent changes in the amount and type of research taking place at NDSU. He said Haring is available to assist anyone on campus with issues related to safety in research involving biological systems, experiments with potential pathogens, as well as recombinant DNA and synthetic nucleic acids.

She also will be a voting member of the Institutional Biosafety Committee.

Haring has work experience at NDSU, both as a former manager of the Core Biology Facility and most recently as the Molecular Biology Laboratory coordinator for the Reproductive Physiology Group within the animal sciences department.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from Concordia College and her doctorate in microbiology from the University of Iowa.

NDSU is recognized as one of the nation's top 108 public and private universities by the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education.
